Designing Turkey’s First BIM-based Water Treatment Plant

SU-YAPI Engineering & Consulting Inc. was engaged to design the Terkos Water Treatment Facility for ISKI—the first BIM-based water treatment plant in Turkey—and faced tightly packed mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems across 27 process buildings. The firm needed precise interdisciplinary coordination and continuous client communication to avoid costly rework, schedule overruns, and material waste, so SU-YAPI adopted Autodesk solutions (Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks, and BIM 360).

Using Autodesk’s tools, SU-YAPI created intelligent 3D models, imported manufacturers’ Revit equipment files, ran clash detection in Navisworks, and shared models via BIM 360 for real-time collaboration. The Autodesk-enabled workflow improved visualization and coordination, sped decision-making and approvals, reduced coordination challenges and expected construction rework and material waste, and helped shorten the construction schedule—leading ISKI to require BIM on future projects.
