Designing a Hospital Expansion Project in Sweden with AutoCAD and the Architecture Toolset

Tyréns AB, one of Sweden’s leading community development consultancies, used Autodesk’s AutoCAD and the Architecture toolset to design an expansion of Skövde’s central hospital, including a new 4‑story, 8,000 m² dental facility (Tandvårdshuset). The team faced tight, changing departmental requirements and major redesigns during a larger 400 million SEK campus expansion (increasing the site from 160,000 to 210,000 m²), requiring flexible, data-driven modeling and extensive room-level documentation.

Using Autodesk AutoCAD and the Architecture toolset, Tyréns built DWG-based information models with Multiview Block References and property sets, automated DWG/IFC workflows and scripting, and produced the thousands of room views/elevations (about 2,000–3,000) needed for the project. This approach let them efficiently accommodate a mid‑project redesign of two floors, manage room-specific data and scheduling, and streamline collaboration with the contractor, delivering the complex dental facility on a more data-driven, repeatable basis.
