BIM evangelists raise the bar for hospital construction

Lexco, a Santo Domingo–based construction‑management firm, led the delivery of the New Luis Eduardo Aybar Hospital—a 12‑building, high‑tech complex requiring strict WHO/JCI/AIA compliance—while facing low regional familiarity with BIM and the need to coordinate many stakeholders. To meet those challenges, Lexco adopted Autodesk solutions, including Revit and the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection, to drive BIM workflows across design, procurement and construction.

Using Autodesk Revit and related AEC tools (with local training support from an Autodesk reseller), Lexco trained 32 subcontractors and embedded performance data into the BIM model to benchmark KPIs. The Autodesk‑enabled workflow sped design vs. 2D, cut procurement time to site by 28% (receiving long‑lead items 2–3 months earlier), reduced change orders and supported design choices that improved indoor air quality by 25% and lowered mechanical power by 22%; the same Autodesk‑based model will be used for long‑term facility management.
