Case Study: Diamond Schmitt Architects achieves sustainable urban design and BIM collaboration for KING Toronto with Autodesk

A Autodesk Case Study

Preview of the Diamond Schmitt Architects Case Study

At KING Toronto, a new urban landscape comes to life with BIM

Diamond Schmitt Architects (DSA) was faced with the challenge of executing the ambitious design for the KING Toronto development, which featured a complex, pixelated structure to be built around heritage buildings. The project's unique geometry, sustainability goals, and integration of old and new construction required sophisticated planning and coordination. Using Autodesk's BIM technologies, including Revit and BIM 360 (now Autodesk BIM Collaborate), DSA needed to develop constructible solutions within budget while meeting strict environmental standards.

The solution implemented by Autodesk provided a centralized common data environment for real-time collaboration. DSA leveraged Revit to create detailed 3D models, which were critical for resolving complex design issues, optimizing the high-efficiency building envelope, and facilitating remote work during the pandemic. As a result, the project successfully met the Toronto Green Standard Tier 1 and is on track to achieve LEED Gold certification, transforming an ambitious vision into a constructible reality that will serve as a new model for sustainable urban living.
