Architecture Toolset in AutoCAD Makes the Difference

The Home Design Group, led by Jeff Haberman in Sacramento, California, faced the challenge of modernizing decades of hand-drafted custom home designs while managing complex, frequently changing building codes across many jurisdictions. To meet client expectations and streamline workflows, the firm adopted Autodesk AutoCAD with the Architecture toolset to move from paper sketches to professional, digitally shareable plans.

Using Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture, Haberman built custom palettes, toolbars, and reusable base sheets that embed jurisdictional notes and code requirements, and he shifted to 3D CAD for client visualization. The Autodesk solution let the firm update code-driven notes once (as with the 2016 code update effective January 1, 2017) and apply them across all projects, speeding revisions, improving collaboration with engineers through electronic file exchange, and preparing the practice for electronic plan-check workflows.
