Architecture firm Lake|Flato’s adaptive-reuse project embodies sustainability

San Antonio-based architecture firm Lake|Flato faced the challenge of transforming its 100-year-old former car dealership into a new, sustainable headquarters without the environmental impact of new construction. To achieve this ambitious adaptive-reuse project and create a showpiece for its clients, the firm turned to technology from vendor Autodesk, including its Revit and Forma software.

By leveraging Autodesk's tools for 3D modeling, energy analysis, and microclimate simulation, Lake|Flato successfully designed and executed its "Living the Dream" office. The solution enabled the firm to salvage materials, optimize natural light and outdoor space, and achieve significant certifications, including being on track for a Zero Carbon Certification. The new hybrid workplace also increased capacity, allowing for 30% growth without needing additional space, while serving as a powerful testament to sustainable design.
