A Autodesk Case Study
DesignsByJCM, run by architectural millwork draftsman Josh Mowry in Harrisburg, PA, needed a way to turn architects’ floor plans and sections into accurate, buildable shop drawings for custom cabinets, desks and other millwork while resolving contradictions between views and ensuring designs could be shipped and assembled. To do this, Mowry relies on Autodesk’s AutoCAD to import PDFs, scale plans, and create detailed part drawings.
Using Autodesk AutoCAD, he lays out projects in model space to expose and correct conflicts, numbers and measures each part for fabrication, and leverages dynamic blocks, layers and custom tool palettes to automate repetitive work—“dynamic blocks speed up the job considerably.” The solution delivers faster, more accurate shop drawings, fewer installation errors, easier shipping/assembly of complex pieces, and measurable time savings that let DesignsByJCM handle projects from single kitchens to 15-floor luxury apartment installs.
