How McCarthy Upgraded and Delivered a 200-year-old Subsurface Infrastructure Project in 12 Months

McCarthy Building Companies faced a highly complex subsurface infrastructure upgrade at Saint Louis University’s 200-year-old north campus, where buried utilities, underground hazards, and tight urban conditions created major safety and scheduling risks. Using Autodesk Construction Cloud, including BIM 360 and Autodesk’s AEC Collection, McCarthy needed a way to plan and coordinate the work proactively across design, VDC, mapping, and trade partners.

Autodesk Construction Cloud helped McCarthy create a model-based, collaborative workflow built on subsurface utility mapping, cloud coordination, and a common data environment. The team virtually planned and coordinated the project before field execution, delivering more than 30,000 linear feet of new electric, gas, chilled water, and communication infrastructure with zero significant utility strikes, 40% less risk than traditional methods, and completion on time and under budget.
