How BAM Nuttall Increased Productivity with Cloud-Based Construction Management

BAM Nuttall, one of the UK’s largest civil engineering contractors, needed a better way to manage complex rail infrastructure projects that were still relying on paper-based processes. On the Merseytravel Depot Construction Contract and the Northern Train Lengthening programme, the team struggled with outdated drawings, manual photo tracking, limited traceability, and the challenge of coordinating multidisciplinary work in the field. They turned to Autodesk Construction Cloud, using Autodesk BIM 360 to bring construction data management into the digital age.

With Autodesk Construction Cloud’s BIM 360, BAM Nuttall gave field teams iPads to capture photos, safety forms, quality checklists, NCRs, and daily records directly on site, all in one cloud-based platform. The results were strong: productivity increased by 27% on one project and 32% on the other, with 13.4 and 16.2 hours saved per person per week, respectively. BAM Nuttall also saw improved traceability, faster reporting, better collaboration, and an estimated 4:1 ROI on the bedded services portion of the work.
