Van Wijnen uses BIM in the office and in the field to gain a competitive advantage

Van Wijnen, a Netherlands-based contractor with about 1,400 employees and 23 offices, faced rising cost pressure and set an ambitious target to complete projects in half the time and for 15% less cost. To gain a competitive edge it adopted a BIM process using Autodesk® Navisworks® Manage for model-based coordination and expanded BIM into the field with Autodesk BIM 360 (using BIM 360 Field) to improve planning, quality, and communication.

Van Wijnen aggregates and clashes models in Navisworks, links scheduling to the model, and piloted Autodesk BIM 360 Field on iPads to run a paperless field office with checklists, photos, and real-time issue tracking (pilot: 13-home development). The combined Autodesk BIM 360 and Navisworks workflow cut a typical house build from 120 days to 60, sped issue resolution, provided richer subcontractor performance data, and put the company well on its way to the 50% time / 15% cost target.
