Hawaiian Dredging Improves Quality and Efficiency With ‘Virtual Construction'

Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, the largest and most diversified general contractor in Hawaii, faced a challenge sharing model data and coordinating trades efficiently despite long‑time use of Autodesk Revit and NavisWorks. To overcome fragmented information flow and onsite rework, the company adopted the Autodesk BIM 360 construction management platform to enable easier access to up‑to‑date 3D models and collaborative workflows.

Using Autodesk BIM 360 HDCC implemented a “virtual construction” digital twin and sequence‑based prototyping that brings subcontractors into preconstruction coordination, ties drone imagery into models, and integrates third‑party tools like Pype. The result: fewer onsite conflicts and rework, proactive subcontractor engagement, and measurable time savings (for example, Pype reduced certain review cycles from one month to one week), with companywide improvements in time, cost and quality.
