A AuthZed Case Study
Turo, the world's largest peer-to-peer car-sharing marketplace, faced a critical security and scalability challenge as hosts began managing large fleets of vehicles. Their legacy authorization system could not support the granular permissions required for a new co-hosting feature, necessitating a complete and daunting refactor of their platform's permissions architecture. Turo turned to vendor AuthZed for a solution.
AuthZed provided the solution with its SpiceDB product, a Zanzibar-based authorization system. The implementation was a resounding success, effortlessly handling a mistaken global rollout that sent 8x the expected traffic its way. SpiceDB performed with exceptional reliability and speed, processing tens of millions of daily requests with p95 latency under 3ms and p99 under 15ms. This allowed Turo to securely scale its co-hosting platform globally with the managed service AuthZed Dedicated, avoiding the need to build and maintain the infrastructure themselves.
