How SnelStart Is Saving Months on Its Security Initiative

SnelStart is a Netherlands-based accounting software provider serving more than 82,000 entrepreneurs and about 3,800 accountancy and administrative offices, with roughly 90,000 monthly active users. When PSD2 requirements demanded stronger user security, the company found its homebuilt authentication (custom database and hashing) was no longer sufficient and was consuming significant developer resources.

SnelStart adopted Auth0—leveraging its SDKs and documentation—to implement Brute Force Protection, Single Sign‑On across web and mobile, and plans for MFA and Breached Password Detection. The switch reduced legacy code, freed development capacity (avoiding an estimated four full‑time authentication engineers), sped rollout of SSO/MFA (saving at least six months of development time), and improved both security and user experience while enabling new initiatives like chatbot authentication.
