How Larimer County Went Fully Remote With Okta + Auth0

Larimer County, Colorado — a public-sector government serving residents across 28 departments — faced fragmented online services and 28 different authentication systems for employees and citizens. The county needed a single, secure way to authenticate users so staff could move seamlessly between applications and citizens could access services from one platform.

Larimer implemented Okta to centralize employee identity (2,200 users and 35 apps integrated in under a month) and chose Auth0 for citizen-facing authentication with social login and developer-friendly tooling. The combined solution enabled MFA, remote work continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic, online delivery of citizen services (e.g., permits, registrations), easier training distribution, and ongoing plans to consolidate more services for cost and productivity gains.
