How Checkr scales authentication best practices and minimizes engineering effort

Checkr, a fast-growing background check platform focused on fair-chance hiring, needed to secure and scale authentication for millions of candidates’ sensitive PII without diverting engineering effort from its core product. Its homegrown username/password system became costly to maintain and limited support for enterprise SAML, social logins, token security and other sign-in options required by customers of different sizes.

Checkr moved to Auth0 Private Cloud, enabling SAML, enterprise and social connections, custom Rules and brute-force detection while giving the company more control over data segmentation and SLA. Auth0 now handles about 24,000 business logins monthly, is managed by a five-person internal team (versus the 15–20 engineers an in‑house build would have needed), and has freed Checkr’s engineers to focus on revenue-driving features, improved security posture and operational efficiency.
