Overcoming Resistance of New Technology to Improve Business Processes

Central New Mexico Community College (Central New Mexico Community College - Workforce Training Center) in Albuquerque, NM serves more than 22,000 students and provides customized non-credit corporate and workforce training. The WTC faced a major challenge: their campus ERP (Ellucian Banner) was built for credit programs and could not provide online self-registration, easy reporting, or meet the unique business needs of non-credit training—compounded by internal resistance to adopting new technology. To address this, CNM selected Augusoft and its Lumens PRO solution (including the Contract Training module).

Augusoft implemented Lumens (Contract Training, later adding B2B and Lumens ENT) and went live within months, adding third-party online classes and a searchable online catalog. As a result, CNM increased WTC revenue in the first eight months versus the prior year with no extra marketing, reduced cancellations from about 60% to 38% on average per month, cut labor costs (from two full‑time staff plus a temp to one full‑time), eliminated no‑show problems with automated notifications, and the system paid for itself within the first year.
