How Online Education Effects the Bottom Line

Pierpont Community and Technical College’s Continuing Education department needed a more efficient way to offer online courses, grow enrollment, and reduce the risk and cost of building its own online programs. Pierpont had tried creating independent online classes but found the investment risky and sought an integrated solution; they turned to Augusoft and its Lumens enrollment management system to simplify offering third‑party online catalog content (notably World Education) and better serve working students and the unemployed.

Using Augusoft’s Lumens with integrated online class providers (Pierpont added World Education in January 2016), the college simplified maintenance (quarterly imports), enabled heavy self‑registration (74% overall, 83% for online), and captured new revenue streams for other campus departments. The results: online classes generated 44% of Continuing Education revenue in FY2016, online students show higher repeat rates (2.21 vs. 1.47 for in‑person), and in‑person/hybrid courses have more than double the cancellation rate of online offerings — showing Augusoft’s integration measurably improved enrollment efficiency and the bottom line.
