Dakota County Technical College Balances Academic and Workforce Missions, Preparing Students for Work Today and More Education Tomorrow

Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) in Rosemount, Minnesota needed to balance its academic and workforce missions while generating revenue to support capital‑intensive technical programs. To boost non‑credit enrollment and eliminate repetitive, manual registration tasks, DCTC turned to Augusoft and its web‑hosted Lifelong Learning Management System, Lumens.

Augusoft implemented Lumens to provide 24/7 online self‑registration, payment processing and reporting, which freed staff for higher‑value work and enabled program expansion. The college saw an immediate, measurable impact — about 2,000 more registrations in the first year, registrations rising to 8,425 in 2009 and net revenue reaching $2.9M in 2010 — along with improved accuracy, service to 500+ businesses, and roughly 100 new entrepreneurs created through DCTC programs.
