The challenge involved pipeline routing through congested infrastructure and mitigating the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking. Shell turned to vendor Audubon for engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) services.

Audubon provided a comprehensive EPCM solution, which included modeling the hydrogen pipeline and recommending a scalable line size and all-weld construction to improve safety and minimize cracking. Their services also encompassed survey, mapping, permitting, and right-of-way support to advance the project without interruption. Audubon's expertise enabled Shell to successfully deliver a sustainable alternative fuel for vehicles, buses, and heavy-haul trucks, playing an important role in California's effort to decarbonize the transportation sector.
