Energy Transfer recovers 92% of ethane with Audubon at a 120-MMSCFD cryogenic gas plant

Audubon was contracted by Energy Transfer to provide engineering, procurement, construction, and fabrication (EPC) solutions for a new greenfield cryogenic gas plant in South Texas. The challenge was to build the Chisholm plant, which needed to process 120 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and effectively extract natural gas liquids while removing CO2 from the inlet gas stream.

Audubon delivered a complete EPC solution, engineering a plant that uses a gas subcooled process (GSP) with propane refrigeration and an amine treatment unit. The solution included a 330-GPM amine unit for CO2 removal and significant compression horsepower. As a result, Energy Transfer's new plant can extract 92% of ethane and 100% of heavy hydrocarbons from the natural gas, effectively cooling the gas and recovering valuable natural gas liquids for their pipeline system.
