A AudioShake Case Study
Middle Tennessee State University student and musician Colman Connolly faced the challenge of restoring century-old recordings of Irish fiddler Michael Coleman. The original 78 rpm discs contained significant audio issues like background hiss and pitch fluctuations, and the instruments were so tightly blended that isolating them for remixing seemed impossible with existing tools. He turned to AudioShake for its AI-powered stem separation service to overcome this.
Using AudioShake's best-in-class separation tools, Connolly was able to isolate high-quality stems of the individual instruments, including the fiddle and piano, from the original recordings. This solution enabled him to meticulously restore Coleman's original fiddle parts and compose new piano accompaniments. The result was his completed thesis, which featured 15 restored and remixed tracks, successfully using AudioShake's technology to unlock archival recordings for new creative possibilities and preserve a musical legacy.
