Preparing for Microsoft Lync with Network Voice Readiness Assessment

Allen Independent School District, a fast-growing Texas school district with more than 19,000 students and a large, complex network environment, was preparing to migrate from aging TDM and Centrex systems to Microsoft Lync Unified Communications. Before the rollout, the district needed to confirm that its existing infrastructure could support real-time voice and video traffic without disrupting other services, so it engaged AudioCodes Professional Services for a Voice Network Readiness Assessment.

AudioCodes conducted a Network Voice Readiness Assessment using Mediant Media Gateways and SBC-Es to simulate heavy call traffic and measure packet loss, jitter, and latency across the network. The assessment showed the network was ready for Microsoft Lync, while also uncovering a temporary congestion issue caused by backup traffic; resolving that gave the district confidence to move forward. AudioCodes also positioned the district for future SIP trunk consolidation and survivability upgrades, helping reduce costs and improve flexibility.
