Origin Energy - Customer Case Study

Origin Energy, working with Aucerna, needed to improve its long-term forecasting and life-of-field (LoF) planning process. Its short-term forecasts ran in Enersight, but long-term forecasts relied on an ad hoc Excel-based workflow tied to multiple SQL databases, making cycle times long, comparisons to prior plans difficult, and scenario analysis nearly impractical.

Aucerna implemented a phased solution centered on PlanningSpace, including CASH, PS Portfolio, PlanningSpace Decline, Dataflow, and Economics. Phase 1 enabled large-scale scenario optimization for LoF planning, with more than 35 scenarios run in 2017 and an estimated value of at least AUD 100 million in additional optionality. Phase 2 created a trusted, well-controlled source of truth for well-level production and restoration data, improved forecasting and economic calculation, and made portfolio optimization easier by feeding validated data into the platform.
