A Hybrid Project Approach Completes A Migration Project Ahead Of Schedule

Sage Publishing partnered with Atypon to develop a new journals website and migrate more than 1,000 journals from its previous vendor’s system to Atypon’s Literatum platform. The project’s timeline was shortened from 12 months to 9 months shortly after kickoff, while keeping the scope, design quality, and customizations intact.

Atypon used a hybrid Waterfall-Agile approach, split migration work into parallel tracks, and relied on working prototypes plus tightly managed communication through Smartsheet and JIRA. As a result, Sage’s complex migration was completed three months ahead of schedule without expanding the Atypon team, and the success prompted Atypon to adopt the model for future large-scale projects.
