Legacy Data Integration Provides New Solution for Book Distributors

Random House's book distribution division, The Book Service (TBS), faced a challenge with its outdated "green screen" interface for its core Vista ERP system. To improve usability and provide remote access for its sales teams and third-party clients, TBS needed to implement a new web-based front-end application. This required seamless access to data stored in legacy RMS files, for which they engaged the vendor Attunity and its Attunity Connect solution.

Attunity provided the critical data integration layer, using Attunity Connect to access the legacy data within Vista and transfer it in XML format to the new SEEVIEW web application. The implementation was fast, with major phases completed in four months. The solution provided a more user-friendly system, granting both internal and external users significantly faster access to better sales information. Attunity's technology was later deployed for additional projects, including sales analysis and a new e-fulfillment system, demonstrating its flexibility and ongoing value.
