Roofstock, an online marketplace for buying and selling single-family rental (SFR) properties, set out to solve inefficiencies in the SFR market—especially the difficulty of selling occupied homes through the traditional MLS and the lack of comprehensive, actionable property data. To tackle this, Roofstock tapped property and neighborhood data from ATTOM Data Solutions to power its platform and analytics.

Using ATTOM data, Roofstock built its "Rental Genome Project" and an interactive map of all 16 million U.S. SFRs, auto-populated property-level details into seller workflows, and offered automated valuations and targeting insights. The ATTOM-fueled approach helped Roofstock scale rapidly—transactions jumped from $40 million in 2016 to nearly $1 billion in 2017 (a ~25x increase)—while enabling targeted marketing and inventory growth and supporting a $35 million Series C raise.
