Eye Care Practice Automates Employee Leave Tracking

Doctors Vision Center, a network of 42 eye care practices with about 250 employees, struggled with a clunky web time system that didn’t track PTO balances or minute-level FMLA leave. Supervisors spent excessive time fixing missed punches, manually calculating vacation/sick balances, and preparing payroll, making scheduling and compliance error-prone and time-consuming.

In 2010 they implemented Attendance on Demand (via Labor Strategy), a cloud-based time-and-attendance solution that lets employees web-punch, request PTO, and records FMLA to the minute. The system displays balances on timesheets, gives supervisors approval and editing tools, and uses visual flags to speed payroll review—reducing payroll prep to about 30 minutes and improving accuracy, scheduling, and administrative efficiency so the practice can focus on patient care and growth.
