Cardinal Health Driving Advances in Healthcare Through Self-service Data Analytics

Cardinal Health, a multinational healthcare services company, faced a fragmented data landscape after a series of acquisitions that made self-service analytics, forecasting, and governance difficult. Business analysts were using shadow IT and disparate systems across pharmaceutical, corporate, and medical lines, so Cardinal Health selected AtScale’s Semantic Layer (implemented on Google BigQuery) to simplify access, centralize governance, and enable modern self‑service analytics.

AtScale’s semantic layer standardized metric definitions, created a universal source of truth, and let users access data with familiar BI tools like Excel and Tableau, eliminating unapproved shadow IT. The solution enabled streamlined data sharing across business lines, centralized governance, and has been rolled out to over 200 users (with a target of 1,000), delivering more reliable reporting and faster, governed self‑service analytics across the organization.
