Skyscanner Improves Data Accuracy and Consistency with AtScale

Skyscanner, a travel search engine with 100 million monthly users, faced inconsistent and inaccurate reports across tools like Tableau and Excel as it moved away from SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS). The company needed a cloud-native, multidimensional solution that gave business users direct access to the Delta Lake on Databricks and ensured consistent data and KPIs across departments. Skyscanner partnered with AtScale to address these challenges.

AtScale worked with Skyscanner and Databricks to build a universal semantic layer — a governed “diamond layer” of metrics — that automated aggregate creation and pushed workloads to the Databricks Lakehouse. The AtScale solution delivered low-latency, scalable access to Databricks data, enabled pivot-table and BI analysis directly on the Delta Lake, and produced consistent query results across BI tools. As a result, Skyscanner achieved faster time-to-insights, consistent reporting across dashboards, and improved cross-departmental collaboration.
