Weber State Streamlines Energy Management Saving $3.0M in 2 years

Weber State University, pursuing a Net Zero Energy goal, was struggling to meet aggressive energy-reduction targets because projects were managed ad hoc and based on short-term audits. The sustainability team opted not to hire an ESCO and instead needed granular, portfolio-wide data to prioritize work and verify savings.

They installed building sub-meters and integrated BuildingOS to provide real-time analytics, heat maps, dashboards and measurement-and-verification tools that supported operational fixes, retrofits and behavioral programs. The results: $1.4M saved in 2013 and $1.6M in 2014 (a $3.0M total), a 33% reduction of the planned annual energy budget, with about $400K of that coming directly from scheduling and operational improvements — plus faster decision-making, leak detection and campus-wide data access for projects and research.
