A Atrius Case Study
Denver International Airport (DEN), one of the world’s busiest airports and a major economic engine for Colorado, faced significant wayfinding challenges during its multi‑phase Great Hall renovation and the COVID‑19 era. With multiple entrances and walkways rerouted, static maps, floor decals, signage and limited customer‑service staffing proved insufficient to guide arriving and departing passengers or quickly communicate temporary detours.
DEN implemented scannable QR codes integrated into its FlyDenver Personal Wayfinder (Atrius) system, adding them to existing signage and script pads so passengers could get an oriented map and step‑by‑step directions in real time. The contactless, low‑cost solution exceeded expectations — more than 6,000 accesses from before Thanksgiving through March 31, 2021 — and has been retained and expanded (including baggage carousel info) to support ongoing construction and improve the traveler experience.
