SUMMA 112 - Customer Case Study

SUMMA 112, the Servicio de Urgencia Médica de Madrid, needed to manage an enormous and time-critical workload—more than 12 million calls a year (about 3,500 a day) with roughly 60,000 emergencies—requiring rapid prioritization, accurate caller information and coordinated dispatch across a large metropolitan region. To address these challenges it worked with Atos to deploy the Atos Global Emergency Management solution (GEMMA).

Atos implemented GEMMA plus a renewal of SUMMA 112’s infrastructure (servers, IP telephony, vehicle GPS, tablets and integrated communications), enabling automated call classification, resource allocation, real‑time transmission of ECG and vital signs, and links to electronic health records. The Atos solution improved average arrival time from 16 to 15 minutes, delivered 24/7 high‑availability operations, better resource optimization and faster, more informed responses—measurable gains that help improve medical outcomes and save lives.
