Procurement of the high-performance computer Noctua2 for the University of Paderborn

The University of Paderborn required a modern, high-performance computing infrastructure to support its scientific research, with a specific challenge to find an optimal solution that balanced the best performance and functionality with low overall operating costs, particularly for energy efficiency and cooling. To address this, the university procured the Noctua 2 supercomputer from vendor Atos.

Atos implemented a BullSequana XH2000 system, which included computing and FPGA nodes, a high-speed network, and a large parallel storage system, all managed by its SMC software suite. The solution provides the university with a future-proof, highly flexible infrastructure for data evaluation. The result is a massive increase in processing power and operational efficiency, with the system offering the lowest possible total cost of ownership thanks to its advanced free-cooling capabilities.
