National Center of Genomic Analysis - Customer Case Study

The National Center of Genomic Analysis (CNAG) needed to scale its sequencing and analytics to handle massive data volumes — sequencing roughly 800 gigabases per day — and to speed the identification of the rare genomic variations that drive research and clinical insight. To address capacity, performance and repeatability challenges, CNAG selected Atos (via its Big Data & Security service line) to redesign its compute infrastructure.

Atos implemented a tailor-made high-performance analytics cluster — a 52-node bullx R4222E2 server deployment powered by Intel® Xeon® processor E5 family — to run in-depth genomic HPDA. The new Atos platform delivered an estimated ten-fold increase in analytics software performance, enabled higher throughput and repeatable industrial-scale analyses, supported expanded clinical and research services, and helped CNAG reduce costs while maintaining its position as a leading genomics center.
