Case Study: BBC Cymru Wales achieves a modern, connected and sustainable broadcast centre with Atos

A Atos Case Study

Preview of the BBC Cymru Wales Case Study

Moving BBC Cymru Wales to the BBC’s most connected, accessible and sustainable building

BBC Cymru Wales relocated to BBC Central Square in Cardiff — a 14,000m², IP‑based broadcast centre designed for open‑plan, hot‑desking and mobile working. Faced with a tight timeline to be fully operational by the end of 2020 and the technical complexity of moving into the UK’s first IP‑centric broadcasting centre, BBC Cymru Wales engaged long‑term partner Atos to lead delivery of a new network backbone and to integrate audio‑visual systems and modern digital tools.

Atos worked with BBC Cymru Wales and partners to define requirements and deliver the Reith LAN, on‑premises Wi‑Fi, videoconferencing and collaboration screens, extensive digital signage, an 18m video wall and the BBC’s largest IPTV installation, supported by robust programme management. All systems were delivered on time for staff migration, creating a connected digital workplace that streamlines workflows, supports ultra‑HD production and mobile working, and helped progress the BBC’s target to cut carbon emissions by 24% by 2022.
