Intelligent networking strategy connects critical infrastructure and improves employee experience for Scottish Water

Scottish Water worked with Atos to modernize its nationwide technology network as it faced aging IT and OT devices, strict segregation requirements between those environments, and the planned retirement of the PSTN service supporting critical operational connectivity. The organization needed a more resilient, flexible, and lower-risk network approach for its water and wastewater operations.

Atos implemented a two-part solution: IP enablement to replace PSTN-based OT connectivity and a managed SD-WAN design to support remote device management, seamless switching between MPLS and internet links, and strong IT/OT segregation through a single connection. The pilot showed improved network performance and greater resilience, while also reducing risk and management burden; Scottish Water is now moving ahead with a full rollout.
