French Ministery of defense (DGA) Auxylium – mobile phone and communication hub for the digital soldier

The French Ministery of Defense faced an urgent need for lightweight, secure field communications for Operation Sentinelle and broader moves to digitize soldier systems. In partnership with Atos and the DGA, Atos helped develop Auxylium — an Android smartphone‑based tactical communications system that combines civilian mobile technology with military‑grade features like geolocated mapping, a digital orders “wall,” hybrid radio networking and energy‑saving usability enhancements.

Atos industrialized Auxylium using agile and DevOps methods (delivering 122 iterative versions), mobilizing seven sites and up to 160 people (about 12,000 person‑days) to deliver hardware, infrastructure and training—including procuring and shipping some 13 tonnes of equipment—on an accelerated schedule. Auxylium gained operational authorization on 9 June 2016 and is now used daily by several hundred soldiers, offering a few‑hundred‑gram, secure, energy‑efficient platform that switches instantly between civilian and military networks and supports enhanced situational awareness.
