A Atos Case Study
Grenoble City needed to turn the Grenoble Presqu’île ÉcoCité into a sustainable, tightly controlled urban district but faced ambitious targets for carbon‑free energy, consumption control and integration of intermittent local production. To provide stakeholders with precise, multi‑network information the city engaged Atos (via its Atos Worldgrid unit) to supply a multi‑fluid, multi‑energy platform and smart‑grid capabilities.
Atos implemented the Smart Grid ÉcoCité solution—multi‑fluid smart meters, network sensors, data aggregators, monitoring systems, resident “energy boxes,” public displays and the VivaCité portal—giving Grenoble City real‑time, cross‑checked energy data. The pilot equips 500 new homes with next‑generation smart meters, 50 energy boxes in existing buildings, and citywide displays and web access; operational since 2014 and testing through 2019, the program has improved energy decision‑making, public awareness and progress toward reduced consumption and emissions.
