Boyd Corporation, working with Medtronic to design the OsteoCool RF ablation probe, faced tight timelines and extreme simulation demands — complex geometry, turbulent micro‑fluid flows and meshes of 30–60 million elements meant each simulation took days and local software licenses were insufficient. To accelerate development, Boyd turned to Atos, using the Nimbix Cloud platform powered by JARVICE for high‑performance cloud simulation resources.

Atos delivered Nimbix Cloud/JARVICE as an HPC-as-a-service solution, providing faster runtimes, simultaneous job capacity and on‑demand software licenses plus hands‑on support. The solution cut simulation time from days to hours, enabled multiple concurrent studies, and helped Boyd identify the ideal probe design and cooling system so Medtronic could bring OsteoCool to market in six months; since launch the device has treated more than 10,000 cases, gained FDA approval for certain indications, expanded treatments and become an industry standard.
