Atos introduces High-Performance Storage System as the University of Tasmania take research new heights

The University of Tasmania faced exponential growth in research data and a chronic small-file “big data” problem, compounded by a devastating flood that damaged infrastructure and disrupted its research data management. The university engaged Atos to deploy a tier‑1 High‑Performance Storage System (HPSS) Research Data Management System, seeking a scalable global namespace and direct access to HPSS experts.

Atos implemented its HPSS solution across three spatially separated sites, delivering encrypted data‑at‑rest, a POSIX‑style namespace capable of billions of directories and files, checksummed file ingestion for end‑to‑end integrity, and scalable client endpoints for performance and resiliency. The Atos HPSS deployment revived the University of Tasmania’s research data operations, provided robust disaster recovery and measurable improvements in scalability, availability and data integrity.
