A Atos Case Study
Philips, the multinational health-technology company, set out to reinvent itself as a digital healthcare products and services provider and needed to modernize and migrate thousands of legacy ERP and enterprise applications to public and private cloud to gain speed, agility and support DevOps. To lead this move, Philips awarded Atos a four-and-a-half‑year multicloud application migration and management contract under its assured application-as-a-service (A3S) approach.
Atos ran the IceCube program and deployed its Canopy Open Hybrid Cloud platform, consolidating more than 100 datacenters and migrating about 1,500 workloads to AWS and 2,000 to Atos datacenters with a plan to move roughly half of the 5,000 in‑scope workloads to public cloud. Using Dynatrace monitoring, SyntBots automation and intelligent application services, Atos delivered guaranteed cost reductions and measurable operational gains — including a 70–80% reduction in incidents, consolidation of datacenters and database migrations (including 50 Oracle databases), and a planned increase in container usage from ~15–20% to ~30–40% to accelerate Philips’ cloud‑native delivery.
