A Atos Case Study
Global Logistics Company was struggling with an aging, decentralized mainframe billing environment—nearly 400 COBOL programs, more than 60 billing databases and billions of records—that was costly to maintain, hard to scale and lacked real-time reporting. Atos (via Atos Syntel) was engaged to modernize the billing landscape, delivering legacy modernization services including a modern billed data repository platform, a new Java billing application and service-oriented interfaces for real-time processing.
Atos consolidated and migrated data into an Oracle-based central billing repository, built a data-validation utility to cleanse 250 million customer records and 1.5 billion invoices, eliminated redundant interfaces and decommissioned legacy systems. The new solution processes 1.3 million invoices daily, reduced mainframe workload by about 1,500 MIPS, and is projected to save roughly $5 million annually (about $28.6–$29 million over five years), with ongoing maintenance provided by Atos.
