A Atomic Object Case Study

KPR is empowering the severely disabled by helping them use a computer up to 170% faster

Koester Performance Research (KPR) needed a better way to help people with severe physical impairments use computers more effectively, especially those relying on a single switch for text entry. They partnered with Atomic Object to build Scanning Wizard, a web app designed to measure scanning performance and identify the best configuration for each user’s assistive text-entry system.

Atomic Object developed Scanning Wizard using Ember.js, delivering both the visual design and web app functionality, including online accounts, offline mode, and administrative tools for managing user data. The solution has helped single-switch users increase text-entry speed by an average of 70%, with some improving by as much as 170%, and it was built so Dr. Koester could continue refining the app and algorithm over time.
