ArtPrize, the organization behind a major 3-week public art festival in downtown Grand Rapids, needed mobile apps to support more than 500,000 visitors, 1,400 artworks, and 60,000 event-goers across a crowded, often spotty cellular environment. Atomic Object worked with ArtPrize on its Android and iOS apps to improve registration, voting, and overall usability for the event.
Atomic Object completely revamped the registration flow so users could create an account and verify their identity before arriving, with final activation happening automatically in the ArtPrize district. The team also rebuilt the voting infrastructure to store votes offline and sync them more reliably, while earlier work improved stability with geofencing, dynamic updates, and navigation. These changes reduced registration drop-off, improved reliability, and helped increase mobile-app voting from 65% of all votes in 2015 to 75% in 2016.
