Case Study: Starz achieves faster releases, major cost savings, and improved collaboration with Atlassian

A Atlassian Case Study

Preview of the Starz Case Study

Starz drives efficiency and collaboration across teams with Atlassian

Starz, a Denver-based media and entertainment company behind shows like Spartacus and The White Queen, needed a way for software teams to reliably prepare and deliver content across TV, mobile and web while aligning major releases with marketing and sales. Large initiatives such as its Magnetar content-preparation system required heavy cross-functional collaboration between engineering, QA, product and business teams to meet the demands of an anytime, anywhere audience.

Starz migrated its entire ALM to Atlassian — using Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, FishEye/Crucible and add-ons like Zephyr, Balsamiq, Gliffy and Tempo — creating a single integrated toolset. The switch delivered immediate cost savings (about $100K in year one and $500K+ after Tempo), faster, more agile workflows, and much shorter release cycles (Magnetar releases moved from roughly three months to every three weeks), improving velocity and customer feedback loops.
