FlixBus launches Europe’s biggest bus network with Atlassian

FlixBus, Europe’s largest intercity bus network with about 200,000 daily connections to 1,200 destinations across 24 countries, launched after Germany deregulated long‑distance transport in 2013. To roll out a point‑to‑point bus service it needed bespoke route and driver management applications—off‑the‑shelf tools weren’t suitable—so the company set out to build its own systems and brought in Atlassian to manage the complex development work.

Using Trello for ideation and company‑wide project management, Jira Software for structured development and reporting, Confluence for documentation, Bitbucket for code, and Jira Service Desk for internal tickets, FlixBus developed homegrown network‑planning and dynamic pricing systems plus website and apps. The result: rapid, transparent collaboration across product, engineering, UX, BI and operations, enabling FlixBus to scale quickly and become the leading player in Europe’s long‑distance bus market.
