Braintree creates a knowledge-sharing culture with Confluence

Braintree, a Chicago-based payments company founded in 2007 and acquired by PayPal in 2013, faced rapid growth that exposed a weak internal knowledge system. Important information was scattered across multiple wikis, Google Docs, and whiteboards, creating duplicate, conflicting, or hard-to-find content and making knowledge management a business priority.

Braintree adopted Atlassian’s Confluence and Trello: Confluence became the open, company-wide knowledge base (with a weekly internal newsletter and a culture of shared ownership), while Trello handled idea brainstorming and project tracking before documentation moved to Confluence. Adoption grew virally—Confluence content and users increased nearly tenfold, 95% of employees use it regularly, and Trello gained wide use across engineering and business teams.
