Case Study: Austrian Federal Railways achieves end-to-end traceability and a robust ticketing system with Atlassian

A Atlassian Case Study

Preview of the Austrian Federal Railways Case Study

Austrian Federal Railways uses Atlassian across engineering, IT, and business

Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), which carries about 460 million passengers and employs over 40,000 people, needed a more transparent and efficient way to build and maintain its railway ticketing systems across web, mobile, ticket machines and conductor tools. Developers were working with fragmented tools (Polarion, Jenkins, SVN, Git) that didn’t provide clear visibility or cross-team reporting across the build process.

Engineering migrated to Atlassian—Confluence for requirements, Jira for issue tracking, Bitbucket for source control and Bamboo for CI—creating end-to-end traceability. The platform scaled quickly across the business: today ÖBB has 28,000 Jira users, 320 projects and 88,500 issues, 1,400 Confluence users with 22,000+ pages, and 50,000 Bitbucket commits, resulting in more efficient workflows and a more robust ticketing system for passengers.
