Atlassian Supports Xero’s Hypergrowth

Xero, a Wellington-based cloud accounting company with about 1,450 employees and rapid expansion (tripling in size from 2013–2016 and named a Forbes Most Innovative Growth Company), found its homegrown development tools couldn’t keep up with hypergrowth. Distributed teams across geographies struggled to collaborate effectively and needed scalable tooling that would support a global, fast-changing engineering culture.

Xero rolled out Jira Software and Confluence, using flexible Jira workflows, Atlassian Marketplace add‑ons, and Confluence as a central knowledge base and internal blog to standardize processes while preserving team autonomy. The new tools sped onboarding during intense hiring, broke down information silos, improved cross-team collaboration, and allowed Xero to scale its development organization while reinforcing core values like creativity, openness and ownership.
