Case Study: Red Giant achieves synchronized distributed teams and improved development visibility with Atlassian

A Atlassian Case Study

Preview of the Red Giant Case Study

Atlassian helps distributed teams at Red Giant stay in sync

Red Giant, a Portland-based developer of filmmaking and motion graphics software used by independent filmmakers and major studios, faced the challenge of coordinating a distributed development team and managing code across more than 60 products and modules. To speed development and improve collaboration, the company moved from SVN to Git to support a distributed workflow.

Building on existing use of Jira and Confluence, Red Giant adopted Bitbucket to link specs to issues and branches—Confluence specs become Jira backlogs and epics, which drive Bitbucket branches. Using Git via browser, command line, or desktop client and following GitFlow (with 60+ active branches), the team gained better visibility across the development lifecycle, easier branch management, and the ability to track and reference older product versions, letting them focus more on creating great special effects software.
